Wood is a natural product that contains variations in color and grain and often contains knots, cracks and blemishes. These are to be expected in any wooden product, including our signs. We will check for large cracks that compromise the structural integrity of your sign before carving it. Signs received with small cracks that do not effect the strength of the sign, knots, blemishes as well as variations in color and grain from sample products are not eligible for refund or exchange. No two wood products will look exactly alike. If you receive a sign that is significantly cracked or broken, please contact us and let us know within 7 days of receiving your order.
While we take great pride in our craftsmanship, our work is 100% made by hand, and no two signs will look exactly alike. Slight variations in lettering and artwork style will vary by carver. If you are not satisfied with the work of your carver, contact us within 7 days of receiving your sign and politely let us know what it is that you are unhappy with. After 7 days no refunds or exchanges will be given.
What is the difference between knotty pine and redwood?
The most obvious difference is the color. Knotty pine can be white or yellow, and typically has visible knots throughout, as the name implies. Redwood can be anywhere from a light to deep red color, and sometimes has yellow edges. Knots are common but less so than pine. Other than the color, the biggest difference between the two is longevity. Redwood is typically going to last much longer than pine. That being said, pine signs will look great and last years indoors, and with proper care, can last outdoors for years as well. But direct sunlight and exposure to moisture will quickly age the appearance of the sign and, over time, the strength as well. Redwood, on the other hand, can last outdoors for many years, even decades. The natural oils in redwood make it resistant to pests like termites, and protect it from damaging sun rays and inclement weather.
So pine is typically the better choice for a sign going indoors, while redwood is the better choice for one going outdoors.
What is the difference between Interior and Exterior Finish?
What is the difference between Interior and Exterior Finish? Finish is the treatment that seals the wood to protect it. Interior finish is used to treat signs going indoors, and exterior finish is used to treat signs going outdoors. Interior finish is high gloss and covers the face and edges of the sign, leaving the back untreated. For exterior finish we use semi gloss spar urethane, which protects the sign from harmful UV rays, fluctuations in temperature and moisture. Exterior finish is applied to the entire sign—front, back and edges. Signs receiving exterior finish will take an extra 1-2 days of processing time before the sign is ready to ship.
