Wood Sign Care – Expert Guidelines for Maintaining Your Wood Signs

If you are trying to decide which finish to choose for your wood sign please read the following:
At Calico Wood Signs we offer a choice of two sign finishes: interior and exterior.

For wood signs that will be hung indoors interior finish is the best choice.
The front of your sign will be finished with two to three coats of lacquer so that it is shiny and protected. There is no charge for this service.

For wood signs that will be exposed to direct sunlight and weather extremes we recommend exterior finish.
The front and back of your sign will be finished with three coats of a Urethane product specifically made for outdoor use. This will protect your sign from the cracking and drying effects of exposure to heat and light. There is a $10 charge for this service and will add 1-2 days to the processing time.

If you have already purchased your wood sign and would like to protect it from sun and weather extremes please read the following:
To weather-treat your wood sign yourself we recommend using Helmsman Spar Urethane. Apply 3 good coats front and back allowing at least an hour or 2 between coats. Retreat every 6 months for long-lasting shine and protection.

(note from Rich)

1) Clean your sign and let it fully dry before applying any new finish. This usually a very simple process

2) Spray the back and the sides of the wood sign on the first day. Let dry all night then repeat the process the next day on the front of the wood sign.

3) One last thing you ALMOST can never spray to much on the side edges of the wood sign. This is where the sign was cut to size and where it is most vulnerable. So please feel free to over do it in this area.

I hope this short article has helped you if you need further assistance for anything at all please feel free to E-Mail me I will be glad to help.
